The Art of Watchmaking: discover the most expensive and exquisite timepieces in the world

Watch lovers are willing to spend enormous amounts of money on them. Sometimes because they are known to be the best of their kind and others because they are simply exquisite creations. Here are a few of both that you will want to see for yourself, or even to own one if you can.

Roger Dubuis Watches: Out of this World Phenomena

If you think you have seen it all, and you have never had a Roger Dubuis watch in front of your eyes, think again. Even if the brand only exists since 1996, they have already revolutionized the art of watchmaking. Their 2022 creations called “the Knights of the Round Table Monotourbillon” and “the Excalibur Monobalancier” will hypnotize you. The craft shown in these two models (especially in the first one) is almost unreal. Owning a Roger Dubuis watch will have everyone you meet compliment you on such a unique timepiece.

Rolex Watches: The Most Celebrated Brand of Watch Worldwide

Whether you ask a watch specialist, or someone who knows nothing about them, to tell you the name of the most famous watch brand, a very large majority will mention Rolex. It is no surprise, since it is widely accepted that they create the best timepieces.

One of its most prized model to this day remains the Paul Newman Daytona. It was ordered by his wife Joanne Woodward, as a gift to him. It is an unusual design for Rolex, with its mix of black and cream dial, united in an art deco style. The watch was sold at auction for $18.7 million.

Patek Philippe: Only One Step behind the Leader

If Rolex sits on the highest step of the podium, the runner-up has to be Philippe Patek. There are so many watches built by this watchmaker that are famously known around the world and that sell at unbelievable prices, whenever they become available on the market.

One of them is the Patek Philippe Stainless Steel (reference 5016), which ultimately sold for the very small amount of $7.9 million. It is a unique and complex creation that any watch lover would love to add to his collection.

Jaeger-LeCoultre: Masters of Design

The watch we will mention now, was actually offered to none other that Her Majesty the Queen of England, for her 60th year of reign. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Joaillerie 101 Manchette is worth $26 million, but it is well worth every penny.

It features a miniature caliber movement. The 101 is one of the smallest ever created in the world. We are still not sure if the Queen could actually read the time on it, since it is so small.

Chopard : A name that stands for Luxury

If you ever get to see the Chopard 201 Carat – Luxe Digital watch, you won’t miss it. It features 874 diamonds for a grand total of 201 carats. The colours are eye-popping as well. Although it may not be the dream watch of everyone, it is certainly one of the costliest, selling at a price of $25 million.
