A women’s supper club created to foster connections and provide networking opportunities is thriving in south west London.
‘SW London Women’ was created by Francesca Odedra and Shoba Nahappan to create opportunities for women, and their flagship event is their supper club series.
Their latest dinner was held in September at Mucci’s, an Italian restaurant in the heart of Chelsea, and it saw a full house of 40 attendees.
Shoba said: “The SW London Women’s third event was exactly what we envisioned—a room full of inspiring women, creating a safe space to connect, share stories, and uplift one another.
“We’re grateful that the women outside our network who were unsure if they should attend left with warm hugs, saying they’ll definitely be back for the next one.
“Their words fill our hearts and reassure us that what we’re doing is truly making a difference for women.”
SW London Women’s supper clubs bring in a host of speakers, such as the founders of eco-friendly bag brand Finnson Amy James and Kate Mawdsley.
At the event at Mucci’s, the brand owners discussed offering eco-conscious accessory choices to parents and what it was like to run a sustainable business.
They also invited theatre company Speak Up! Act Out!’s artistic director and playwright Angela El-Zeind to talk about her experience with breast cancer, which inspired her play Rebel Boob, and how one can advocate for social change through the arts.
They have recently been supporting Rei Seto, who created Sahana London with her knowledge of tea ceremonies and ikebana, a Japanese style of floral design.
Rei said: “SW London Women is an incredibly empowering networking event for women, particularly those in their 30s, 40s and 50s.
“I had several inquiries about my business and even secured my first collaboration with another small business owner, this event has truly opened doors and fostered invaluable connections.”
SW London Women are doing an end-of-year celebration of their networking events on November 21, held in Barnes.
They are partnering again with HOME SW15, where they hosted their inaugural event, in support of their new location which will be named HOME SW13.
Ticket prices are £40 for entry, drinks and canapes, while their September three-course dinner was sold at £85.
For those who value getting to connect with other like-minded women and businesses, it sets up an invaluable network.
Fran said: “The connections formed over our last three gatherings, where women come together to share experiences, are empowering our attendees to open new doors and build meaningful friendships.
“It’s a testament to how our community and networking events are redefining what it means to connect and support one another.
“These moments truly highlight the resilience and brilliance of women.”
