A group founded in London to combat loneliness among woman which has now expanded nationwide is celebrating over six years of success.
The Lonely Girls Club is a community bringing together women in four of the UK’s largest cities, and runs events every month in an effort to help women connect, make friends and make life less lonely.
It was the brainchild of Holly Cooke, who founded the club after moving to London six years ago.
Cooke said: “There was no intention or idea that the community could ever grow to what it has become today. But we’re so glad it has!
“The LGC has been supporting women for over six years with tens of thousands of women being helped and connected every single week, allowing them to connect and make friends in whatever way is right for them.”
The first branch of The Lonely Girls Club opened after CEO Cooke found making friends in such a large city to be difficult, and started the club with the intention of building personal friendships and connections.
The club started in November 2018 in a Facebook group, with the first meeting being at a pancake house in Covent Garden.
The group has since grown to have over 125,000 community members nationwide.
The club provides a variety of events in different locations with different capacities, to cater to the diversity of its members.
They have a walk club, a book club, quiz nights, karaoke nights, brunch clubs, supper clubs, craft activities, sports events and more.
Cooke said: “Our community members are a very diverse group of amazing women and that means our events need to reflect that to ensure that we always have something different going on to meet the needs and interest of our wonderful community.”
There are four branches across the UK, in London, Manchester, Nottingham and Birmingham.
The group can be joined via the Facebook community for a given location or by signing up to the email newsletter available on their website.
One registered, those interested are free to sign up to the events.
The Facebook group for each branch allows accepted members to post and make connections with others, attending club events but also arranging meetup’s outside of the organised group events.
