Families and friends visited southwest London’s biggest firework display on 2 November, but the environmental damage caused is being more heavily considered than ever as the effects of climate change on the planet increase.
Kempton Park hosts the biggest display of fireworks and celebration in the area, attended by more than 3000 visitors.
The sold-out event started at 7:30pm and continued during the night but the aftermath of this colourful event left litter and increased levels of pollution in the atmosphere.
Environmental councillor Katherine Dunne said: “People think fireworks are pretty and far away, but the particulate matter will come back down to harm the environment.”

This comes following calls for change after fireworks were linked to environmental damage.
Air pollution is caused when fireworks explode, this releases fine particulate matter.
Heavy metals such as sodium, calcium and strontium create the vivid colours in fireworks which last in the atmosphere for long periods of time.
Noise pollution impacts wildlife and domestic pets, dog owner Jasmine Riley said: “My dog Jess is a mix breed, she starts shaking and panting, nothing we do will calm her.”
Legislative changes have already been put in place to control the domestic purchase of fireworks.
