The Other Side of Hope is the UK’s first ever literary magazine of sanctuary and it just celebrated its third birthday.
Upstairs at the Ritzy in Brixton, London a small and intimate celebration took place at the end of November 2023.
It was the 3rd birthday anniversary of The Other Side of Hope, a literary magazine written and edited entirely by immigrants and refugees.
The birthday event was part of London Migration Film Festival, which is organised by the Migration Collective, and quickly sold out.
Amidst a wave of hostile language from the Government, and increasingly dire headlines from national papers, the literary magazine is a much needed positive reprieve.
I spoke to two of the founders of the Migration Collective, alongside editors of The Other Side of Hope, to hear their thoughts about how cultural organisations such as theirs reflect a shift towards more positive public attitudes regarding immigration.
