A Wimbledon busker will leave street singing behind to tour internationally in July to promote her new music.
Salisbury-born singer Isobel Thatcher, 26, moved to London in 2015 and has come a long way from busking in the streets of south west London as she will be showcasing her new E.P On My Own in Amsterdam as well as returning to Salisbury perform in front of her home crowd.
At the age of four the multi-talented artist had already started playing classical piano, then saxophone at nine, and later taught herself the guitar. Musical talent most certainly runs in Isobel’s blood as her brother is a professional saxophonist and her father a bass and guitar player – who sometimes plays alongside her during live shows.
Isobel said: “Busking in Wimbledon is great, the atmosphere is relaxed and there’s always people who will stop to chat and the people that enjoy it will always chuck something in my case.”
She said that several members of the public have also joined in with her when she was busking in Wimbledon including ‘one chap with wooden spoons’.
As well as busking, writing her own material and touring, Isobel works part-time in financial services yet chooses to squeeze busking to her busy schedule for her pure love and passion to perform her music.
She added: “My focus is on original music and song writing and I am willing to graft to achieve my goals.
“The joy of busking is that nobody is expecting anything from you and there is no pressure.”
When the pressure of performing on the ‘big stage’ is on though, Isobel seems to handle her own, as the musician has performed internationally and in UK venues such as the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire and most recently appeared on BBC Wiltshire where she showcased a live acoustic version of her new song Walking down the tracks.
Isobel’s ‘On My Own’ tour begins July 6 at Farmival 2019 in West Moors, Dorset.
