Experience Carshalton’s terrifying Halloween walk-through

A spooky Halloween walk-through is waiting in Carshalton for families looking for both thrills and community spirit(s).

The Walter family are continuing their growing tradition of creating a haunted scare event for the community on Halloween night 5pm-9pm on Aultone Way, Carshalton, SM5 2LQ.

What started as simple decorations for trick-or-treaters has evolved for more than 10 years into the spooky experience with hidden figures, themed displays and surprises.

Nichola Walter, who organises the event with her family emphasised the sense of community it creates.

She said: “I like that everyone gets together, it’s such a good vibe as well.

“When everyone’s there, they’re walking around and everyone starts talking to each other, it’s great.”

The event saw its biggest growth in 2020, as families were looking for safe outdoor activities throughout lockdowns, and ever since, the walk-through has become a community staple.

Every year the Walter family fund the event themselves, but have begun accepting donations to support Stepping Stones Cat Rescue Wallington, where last year they raised £400.

Those who come along can enjoy different aspects, from kid-friendly areas to scarier sections for adults, with live actors dressing up and hiding in plain sight.

Nichola added: “The dressing up, not knowing it’s me is the best part.

“Also, seeing the faces of people when they’re coming through, thinking is that real or is that not real.”

Nichola said that it’s great for all ages, including adults, because there are scarier sections for adults, but some of the kids enjoy those areas too, but they don’t have to walk through them.

Last year, hundreds of people turned out despite the rain, but it seems as though there could be more this year with its growth in size.

In addition to the Halloween festivities, the Walter family hosts a Christmas event in December, with meet and greets with characters, snow and other festive fun.
