Physical music sales saw a significant rise in 2024, contributing to a record-high for UK music consumption and recorded music retail revenues.
According to the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA), the UK market reached new peaks in both volume and revenue last year, surpassing even the CD era’s best performance.
This surge follows a notable 20-year high in physical music sales, as reported by the BPI.
Overall, music revenues grew by 7.4% in 2024, outpacing video and games and vinyl album sales grew by 10.5% to £196m last year.
Speaking about the boom, Jamie Taylor, founder of TJ Vinyl, said that nostalgia plays a key role in the resurgence of vinyl sales, while Robert Palmer, founder of Roan Records, said the under 35s are really contributing to the increase in South West London.
