How does the American dream change when you’re a Jazz Age millionaire who is mysterious, exuberant, and LGBTQ+?
Co-writers and directors Peter Todd and Mina Moniri genderswapped Jay Gatsby to add to the fight for equality in the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic, and the Scar Theatre performed a three-week run in December to five-star reviews.
But why does this matter?
Gatsby actor Emily Serdahl said: “I’ve played one queer character other than this since being an actor, I’ve been queer a lot longer than that!
“It’s fun to see it through a new lens and bring our lived experiences to this project.”
Moniri added: “When it was written, representation wasn’t ever considered.
“We wanted it to feel relatable to now.”
