Oxjam will hold its first open air concert on Clapham Common this Saturday as it kicks off the charity’s festival season.
The free event is part of the UK-wide annual music festival consisting of multiple volunteer led musical events that aim to raise money for Oxfam by showcasing local talent from the area.
The main festival itself takes part in October, but this Saturday event organizers have opted for a promotional event in the iconic Clapham Common bandstand to give locals a small taste of what to expect later this year.
Event organizer Dan Radley said: “It’s the first time we are doing an outdoor event in Clapham and we are hoping to get people engaged.
“It’s a free event so hopefully people will come along with their picnics and drinks, as well as some spare change in their pockets to donate.”
This is Dan’s year with Oxjam and he says the reason he supports the charity is not only to raise money to fight poverty worldwide, but to give a platform for local musical talent to perform.
He added: “We are trying to bring live music back to Clapham, it has been pushed out in the last few years and that’s part of the reason why I got involved with Oxjam.
“There used to be a lot of live music in the area, and now there just isn’t.”
Hoping for kind weather, Dan expressed his excitement for the upcoming event and that it’s cost free entry will attract many people.
There will be seven acts performing on the day including male vocal duo OMYO, JP the Songwriter, and Cold Heart Revue opening proceedings at midday.
