Fundamentally Dance hosts fourth ‘Intensive’ to help freelance dancers

In January, independent dance production company Fundamentally Dance hosted their fourth ever Jamiel Laurence Creation (JLC) Intensive.

The week-long programme, designed to foster freelance dancers’ career development, aims to help freelance dancers meet others in the same situation to incubate talent for upcoming London shows.

The Intensive, in Canary Wharf, combined talks from industry experts such as the performance union Equity with choreography classes and show reel advice.

Set up by Jamiel Devernay-Laurence, the programme was designed to help dancers find their feet in the professional world and incubate and develop new talent.

Several dancers including Liam Woodvine and Cydney Watson have gone on from the programme to work for Ballet Nights, a production company reimagining the traditional ballet scene.

It was only the second Intensive to happen in January, due to the popularity among dancers of having a time to work on their skills and set their goals for the new year.
