London hotel hosts creative workshops with cocktails

A London hotel has launched a series of crafting workshops to support small businesses and celebrate upcoming events, all within reach of complimentary cocktails.

Page 8 is a boutique hotel near Trafalgar Square that started summer with a unique Beading and Boozing workshop on June 12, with jewellery business Daisy Lily.

Daisy Lily (a home start-up established during the Covid-19 pandemic) channelled a return to the innocence of girlhood and escapism through jewellery making, as well as the spirit of friendship and community in light of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour last month.

Founding sisters Phoebe ‘Daisy’ Dawson and Liss ‘Lily’ Dawson said: “Our unique concept of beading and boozing blossomed organically as friends gathered to craft handmade treasures, fostering laughter and camaraderie.”

The Beading and Boozing workshop, hosted in the hotel’s Common Coffee House with an open bar, involved creating ‘girly things’ like bracelets, necklaces and phone charms, more details of which can be viewed in the video embedded below:

Friendship bracelets are now a recognised staple in the Taylor Swift fan (‘Swiftie’) community, popularised by lyrics from Swift’s album Midnights released in 2022, and the launch of the Tour, with concert-goers trading their creations at each show.

Swift will be returning to Wembley August 15, 16, 17, 19 and 20.

Whilst there will likely be more beading workshops in the future, Page 8 is hosting other crafting workshops across the coming months.

Carb Club’s pottery painting workshop, July 18, will provide pottery and glazing (with firing fees included).

Guests may paint a range of items including bowls, plates, mugs, and sets of coasters, whilst sipping complimentary drinks.

Jodie, the founder of Carb Club, said: “Carb Club isn’t just a brand, it’s a community.

“It’s about infusing creativity into every meal and every moment.”

Proud to be quirky, Carb Club is so-called since the first item Jodie created was a leopard-print pasta bowl inscribed with the words “Pasta Party.”

Postage of pottery pieces is an additional £10, though it may be collected free of charge from Carb Club studio in Hackney Downs.

Page 8 is also hosting a supervised Flower Pounding Workshop on August 9 with M.Y.O. – creating tea towels and tote bags via a sustainable process, which involves gently hammering flowers onto organic cotton, releasing vibrant pigments.

Besides crafting and alcohol events, Page 8 is also hosting a Q and A session about the fermentation of specialty coffee on July 25.

Tickets for crafting events are £40-50, including a soft drink, beer or a glass of wine, and can be booked here.

Page 8 opened in 2019 and is located at St. Martin’s Place, WC2N 4JH.

The hotel endorses locality, interaction, and communal space, and has produced its own Undiscovered London Guide to encourage exploration.

Among the amenities, guests at Page 8 can enjoy discounts at concert performances at the adjacent St Martin-in-the-Fields Church, also a five-star beauty service, and their signature Tiramisu.
