Last week, Hounslow Council announced its new park ranger scheme will help prevent grass fires in the borough’s green spaces.
This comes days after 60 homes were evacuated in Feltham due to a fire caused by the hot weather.
Earlier this year, Hounslow Council employed a team of nine park rangers to carry out tasks like litter picking, and graffiti removal and to provide information services to the public.
To prevent fires, the Park Rangers will be doubling down on efforts in identifying overgrown vegetation and removing litter that could pose a fire risk.
Cabinet Member for Parking, Parks and Leisure, Councillor Salman Shaheen, said: “We have taken swift and decisive action to prevent the spread of these fires in our borough and our efforts continue.
“Our parks teams have mounted extra patrols throughout the day and into the evening to help identify risks and prevent further outbreaks.”
The scheme was launched after receiving positive feedback for its pilot scheme from the local community, held last year.
The rangers were initially employed to target concerns around the parks’ cleanliness and safety.
