With our empty social calendars, we’ve had to get creative trying to keep a sense of normality in our lives, and last weekend we experienced a Valentine’s Day like no other.
From virtual dates, ordering a takeaway, or even having a ‘Galentines’ evening with your housemates, Valentine’s is an excuse to share the love in some way.
Whether you’ve been together a long time or it’s a new lockdown love interest, there will have inevitably been some partners out there stressing about planning a romantic gesture or scrambling for gift ideas.
Lingerie is an ever-popular gift for such occasions, as well as birthdays and Christmas.
With a huge variety to choose from; silk and satin to lace or cotton. and it’s not just textures either, but colour palettes, patterns, sizes, shapes and styles.
What do women really want though?
Throughout the pandemic comfort has become key.
Research by Marks & Spencer reveals that during lockdown there has been an increase in the purchases of high-rise knickers and softer non-wired bra styles.
Loungewear has also been a huge hit with many of us working from home, and with a good night’s sleep being essential for wellbeing, sleepwear has been one of the strongest performing categories throughout the pandemic.
Head of Design for lingerie at M&S, Soozie Jenkinson said: “In contrast to the shift towards casual dressing, more recently we’ve also seen a trend towards customers buying into more glamourous and pretty looks.”
So, the question is luxury or lounge in lockdown?
Soozie shared her top tips for buying underwear.
The former Kingston Uni student suggested: “Consider your loved one’s personal style. Do they prefer simple, clean looks, or push up shapes?
“Choose something special close to the heart, little details make all the difference.”
For the non-Valentine’s believers and singletons, Sunday was still an opportunity to dress up or down though.
It’s always a good idea to treat yourself!
