A pub in Hounslow is collecting food to donate to hospital staff at the forefront of the COVID-19 battle.
The Royal Oak Pub in Isleworth, Hounslow is collecting items including biscuits, chocolate, tea, coffee and snacks for hospital staff to eat while taking breaks on their shifts.
The donations from The Royal Oak have been sent to West Middlesex Hospital.
Adrienne Mead who runs the pub said: “We aren’t standing outside clapping on a Thursday any longer so it’s nice for them to feel that we still appreciate them.
“On Christmas Day we took six large boxes up to the hospital and dropped them off to all of the departments with gifts that had been donated to staff.
“It’s just a little thank you, but it’s nice to do something.”
In response to the donations, Gemma Brown, who is West Middlesex manager of the official charity of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said: “Thanks to generous contributions to our COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund, and donations of gifts in kind sent to our hospitals, we have been able to continue responding to the evolving needs of our staff and patients at West Middlesex University Hospital during this time.
“The health and wellbeing of our staff remains front and centre, and we’re extremely grateful that we can continue to provide much needed aid as our hospitals face the challenges of this wave.
“We are particularly thankful to have the support of local businesses, including the team at The Royal Oak in Isleworth, who have provided supplies of toiletries, snacks, drinks, fruit and freshly baked goods throughout the pandemic for our frontline staff.”
During the first lockdown, the pub was providing donations to several charity food banks and charity kitchens, including for the hospital.
However, since then they have a more stable supply of food being provided by commercial companies.
