A 16-year-old boy was sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of the murder of a Shepherd’s Bush teenager.
The teenager was convicted of the murder of Ayub Hassan, 17, (pictured above) on 6 September after a trial at the Old Bailey and was sentenced to 15 years in jail today.
After the sentencing, Mr Hassan’s mother Siraad Aden said: “The last six months have been the most difficult in mine and my family’s life and nothing will ever be the same.”
She added: “Ayub can now finally rest in peace.”
Mr Hassan was fatally stabbed near Lanfrey Place in Kensington on 7 March.
Leader of the investigation Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard said: “Ayub’s family will have to live with this devastating loss for the rest of their lives but can now start to grieve properly knowing justice has been done.”
During the trial, CCTV footage was shown of Mr Hassan and the defendant socialising as part of a group in an alleyway next to Lanfrey Place.
The defendant, who was 15 at the time of the incident, is seen approaching Mr Hassan.
He appears to argue with him before stabbing him once in the chest.
Analysis of this footage enabled police to identify the defendant, who was captured cycling away from the scene following the attack.
The teenager was arrested at an address in Southall the next day, where police seized clothing matching what was worn in the CCTV footage.
Police also seized the defendant’s phone, which they found had connected with a mast close to the scene of the stabbing on the afternoon of the murder.
