The Mayor of Richmond is to plunge 15,000ft in a skydive challenge to raise money for charity this Sunday.
Councillor Ben Khosa and his team will be skydiving at Headcorn Kent to raise funds for his mayoral charity, Refuge Richmond.
Refuge Richmond supports people in the borough who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse including physical and mental harm.
Refuge provides services in Richmond, including emergency accommodation and community support, such as legal assistance with the police if required.
Councillor Khosa, said: “I am fortunate and honoured to use my position of Mayor this year to highlight this crucial issue and to sufferers I hope to get the message out that there is help available. You’re not alone. Refuge are there.
“I hope that many people come forward to volunteer their time and join Refuge or make a financial contribution or help raise awareness.”
According to the Office for National Statistics, two women die every week in the UK at the hands of their partners and ex partners, thousands of women suffer physical and emotional abuse and one in four women will suffer domestic abuse in their lifetime.
Refuge Richmond helps to support those who are living in silence and at their most vulnerable by supporting them to rebuild their lives.
Team LBRUT will be leaving Twickenham at 6.30am to reach the airfield by 8.30am in what is expected to be an adrenaline-filled day.
