A family-owned Wimbledon restaurant is celebrating after being named Most Loved Local Restaurant in Wimbledon by TimeOut’s Love London Awards.
Entrepreneur Ram Ozdemir, who owns NYEAT with his three brothers, believes the restaurant fills a gap in the market.
Ram is confident that the restuarant will continue to achieve success going forward.
He said: “We came up with the idea after thinking about what there isn’t in Wimbledon.
We wanted to create something we were truly proud of and of course, eat delicious food.”
The three brothers opened their restaurant in February and have since won Time Out’s ‘best loved’ award, the Open Table 2018 Diners Choice award.
He said: “We didn’t expect for it to become so popular so quickly, we’re at 80% capacity most of the time.
“Now people come from all over London to our experience our restaurant.”
The food is mostly American style and it’s slightly more expensive than average.
He added: “All our ingredients are of high quality.
“We’re particularly proud of the mixology cocktails, the 40-day steaks, the fresh lobsters, oh and the beef ribs!”
The American menu caters for vegetarians, but not vegans.
He said: “There’s not the demand for the vegan options, we had to take the vegan dessert off the menu.”
The brothers, Ram, Enver & Ersan, wanted to provide a sophisticated and quirky experience and despite their sometimes-differing opinions, share that vision and work hard to maintain it.
Ram said: “Mum is the proudest of us, she takes her friends here for her ladies’ nights out.”
The Ozdemir’s clearly value family and seek to provide a familial atmosphere for their staff.
Chris Rafael, the head chef, has over 25 years of experience with American cuisine.
He is proud of the new summer menu which will include red snapper, mussels and lots of Wimbledon appropriate strawberries.
The future of NYEAT looks bright.
Ram added: “We’re looking into providing brunches. There should be another identical NYEAT restaurant opening in London before Christmas.
“I can’t reveal the location just yet.”
