An academy chain taking over a Lambeth primary school in June has responded to criticisms made by the school’s head of governors in SW Londoner on March 2.
Durand Academy, based in Stockwell school with more than 850 pupils in attendance, is campaigning against their merger with the Harris Federation, a charity with 44 academies in and around London.
Durand’s head of governors, Angel Lue-Taim, has expressed her concerns that the merger could result in teachers leaving and give the school an excessive focus on results over pupil and staff happiness.
Sabeena Hasan, director of primary education for the Harris Federation said all current staff would keep their jobs, and could choose between their current or a Harris Federation contract.
She said: “In our experience, almost all teachers choose the Harris contract. This offers an excellent range of benefits.
“As well as wanting our children to be engaged and excited about learning, we want them to be happy. We place a great deal of emphasis on pastoral care.”
