Cara Brown is looking to end her season strongly when she competes at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships in France next week.
For the last four years at the Championships, Brown has been the overall ladies’ champion and if she were to defend her crown for a fifth time, she would move closer to four-time Olympian Chemmy Alcott’s record of seven titles.
The Battersea-born 24-year-old took away three medals last year with gold in the women’s super G and silver in the downhill and giant slalom, and she has high hopes of another successful week on the slopes of Tignes.
This year’s event will once again see athletes from the Delancey British Alpine Skiing squads taking part, including PyeongChang Olympians Dave Ryding, Laurie Taylor, Alex Tilley and Charlie Guest.
The Championships also provides the opportunity to see the best up and coming talent from the Delancey U21 and U18 Squads.
Brown said: “I’ve had the overall title for the last four years and getting it a fifth time would put me level with Chemmy’s record.
“I really want to win the super G and the downhill titles and try to reclaim the GS title as well.
“I think I may have to give the slalom a miss, but I’ll be giving it my best shot anyway.
“My super G has got good days and bad days – sometimes it all goes very good and other times it all goes wrong and it’s a difficult one because you’ve only got one run.
“But I’ve skied down the hill at Tignes enough times, so I won’t have any excuses about not knowing the course.
Brown is thankfully going into the Championships – which run from 25 March to 6 April – off the back of an injury-free season after missing most of 2016/17 with a torn ACL.
She had a highest Europa Cup finish of 27th in the downhill at Crans-Montana in February and only this week won two super G races at the Andorran National Championships.
Brown said: “It’s been a good season, where I’ve been competing in a lot more Europa Cups – last year when I was coming back from my knee injury I didn’t do any.
“This year, I’ve been trying to fight my way into the top 30.
“It’s been a year where I learned a lot, been in a lot of races and had some good results.
“I’ve been doing a lot of speed events, so my downhill and my super G have really improved, which I’m really happy with.
“My giant slalom has improved in training and it’s just about getting the two runs right when I’m racing.”
