The Parsons Green bomber was today convicted of attempted murder after his device partially detonated at the London tube station last year.
Ahmed Hassan, an 18-year-old Iraqi asylum seeker, was found guilty after his device sent a fireball through a commuter-filled carriage on September 15 last year.
Hassan, from Surrey, left the timed device in the tube tucked inside a LIDL bag, which partially exploded during the morning rush hour at Parsons Green tube station.
The device was made up of 400g of explosives and 2.2kg of shrapnel, and the explosion injured 30 people.
The jury at the Old Bailey took just one day to pronounce Hassan, from Surrey, as guilty after hearing “overwhelming evidence” to that count.
The teenager denied the charge, saying that he was “certain” the bomb would not explode and that he thought the device would “just burn.”
He claimed this idea was fuelled by boredom and watching action films.
The teenager, who arrived in the UK as a child asylum seeker, said to immigration officials that he was groomed by IS, Islamic State group.
Although Hassan did eventually receive deradicalisation support, it is understood that he was forced to wait months.
Hassan had not yet been given the all-clear by specialists at the time of the attack.
