Match Report: AFC Wimbledon 3 Rotherham 1

Lyle Taylor ended his seven-month goal drought in emphatic fashion as his hat trick helped AFC Wimbledon to victory over League One rivals Rotherham.

Taylor’s first goal in 21 games opened the scoring before Joe Newell’s second half leveller, yet the Dons front man struck twice late on to secure victory.

Wimbledon move up to 18th with that victory, while Rotherham remain fourth, ten points off top.

The hosts started brightly and dominated the opening stages, making their breakthrough after just 15 minutes.

Taylor latched onto Andy Barcham’s through ball and sent a clincial finish past Richard O’Donnell in the visitors’ goal to net his first goal since March.

The Dons maintained their high-tempo start, and only Kieffer Moore’s goalline header prevented the hosts from stretching their lead.

While the Millers improved after the break, Harry Forrester almost caught them out with  a clever lob.

Yet Joe Newell would drag Rotherham level with 20 minutes left, sending a volley into the corner of George Long’s net.

With only five minutes left, Taylor popped up to fire home a fierce finish, and then seized on Richard Wood’s error to seal the victory and his hat trick, in the process ending Rotherham’s run of three consecutive wins.
