Team GB skeleton superstar Lizzie Yarnold will be cheered on at PyeongChang 2018 by millions of fans back home – including one very special namesake in particular.
And Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s Yarnold the mongrel, Lizzy’s very own canine champion, is predicting a gold medal for his sporting namesake.
Yarnold, 11, is named after the Sochi 2014 gold medal winner, who is also one of the Team GB’s best medal hopes in Pyeongchang.
And the Battersea resident is positive that the 29-year-old will become the first ever British competitors to win two gold medals at a Winter Olympics.
Battersea’s rehoming and welfare manager Becky Fisher also hoped Yarnold could find his own home.
She said: “We’re all crossing our fingers and paws for Lizzy Yarnold and we’re hoping she’ll win gold in the women’s skeleton.
“Closer to home, Battersea’s Yarnold has got his skates on and is hoping to zoom out the door and into a new home soon.
“If you think Yarnold could be your top dog, please get in touch. Once you meet him, there’s ‘snow way’ you’ll be able to resist his charms.”
The women’s skeleton begins on Friday February 16, with the final runs and medals decided on Saturday February 17.
Yarnold is one of the average 270 dogs that Battersea cares for across its three centres at any one time.
