Todd Gurley’s offensive rampage at Twickenham on Sunday night sealed a one-sided victory for the LA Rams against an uninspiring Arizona Cardinals side.
Gurley and quarterback Jared Goff scored two first half touchdowns, Greg Zuerlein kicked four field goals and Cooper Kupp added six more late on.
Cardinals quarterback and talisman Carson Palmer was injured in the second quarter, which stalled the Cards already dismal running game to a halt.
Adrian Peterson, who was looking for his 100th career touchdown was shut down by the Rams defence, making 11 carries for only 21 yards.
The decisive moment came late in the second quarter when Rams’ Alec Ogletree bulldozed into QB Palmer allowing Lamarcus Joyner to pick off the wayward pass.
With Palmer out of the game with an arm injury, Goff seized his opportunity and released Gurley who ran into the end zone from 18 yards out.
Arizona’s next drive was another unimaginative display, and the new quarterback Drew Stanton found little synergy between himself and the running backs.
Goff and Gurley continued to run the short game well and after a 35-yard gain from the running back, Goff took the Rams 20 points clear with a touchdown of his own.
Zuerlein added his fourth field goal of the game creating a 27-0 lead and enabled the Rams to move into cruise control.
Kupp put the knife in late in the fourth quarter, linking up with Goff for an 18-yard touchdown and securing an impressive NFC West victory.
