Twenty-five finalists hope to win at the 2017 Mayor’s Civic Awards to be held on Tuesday in Croydon.
The lucky few were selected from more than 200 nominations across ten categories.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony held on Tuesday 17th October at the Hilton London Croydon.
The evening will celebrate individuals, groups and businesses who have dedicated time and effort to serve the community and contributed to make Croydon a better place.
Councillor Toni Letts, Mayor of Croydon, congratulated all the finalists and thanked those who did not make it to the final stage.
She said: “Croydon is full of unsung heroes, people who selflessly give their time and put others first to the benefit of their neighbours and the wider community.
The award categories include Good Neighbour with finalists Patrick Buckley and Sarah Balch, Young Achiever of the Year with finalists Shaniqua Benjamin and Venus Lamey and Volunteer of the Year with finalists Tony Sewell, Claire Mills and Mrs Bilquis Ahmed.
Councillor Hamida Ali described the awards as a fantastic opportunity for the council to thank those who go the extra mile on behalf of the community.
She said: “I’m delighted we’ll be able to honour and celebrate the achievements of these amazing people at next week’s ceremony and wish all of the finalists the very best of luck.”
In addition to the nine awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be attributed to a Croydon resident who has dedicated years of service to the borough.
