Foreign secretary Boris Johnson has urged Londoner’s to ‘keep calm’ following an explosion on a London Underground train at Parsons Green.
Emergency services were called to Parsons Green station on the capital’s District Line, with pictures appeared to show an explosion in a bucket towards the rear of a train.
There were reports of chaos, with armed police officers and all emergency services quickly on the scene. Downing Street confirmed the Prime Minister was receiving regular updates on the situation and will chair a meeting of the emergency COBRA group this afternoon.
“I’m afraid my info is limited and it’s important not to speculate,” said Mr Johnson.
“People should keep calm and go about their lives in the normal way. I know Transport for London and the British Transport Police are on it and they’ll be updating their websites as we get more information.”
Eyewitnesses reported that emergency services are treating two different types of injury at the scene, with some suffering facial burns and others trampled in the chaos that followed.
