Chelsea Ladies are to play a pre-season friendly at Carshalton Athletic’s Colston Avenue ground this Sunday.
The Blues will entertain FC Rosengård – who have won the domestic title nine times in Sweden – as part of their warm-up ahead of the inaugural Women’s Super League One Spring Series in April.
Blues manager Emma Hayes, fresh from guiding her troops to second-place in the league last season, will be picking a team from a squad of well-known footballers.
They include England internationals Eni Aluko, who has more than 100 caps, and Karen Carney, who has just been awarded an MBE for her services to football.
Striker Fran Kirby, dubbed ‘Mini Messi’ by some, could also be starting, as could new signings Ramona Bachmann, who has scored 37 goals for Switzerland, and Crystal Dunn, signed from Washington Spirit in the US.
Colston Avenue is no stranger to hosting women’s football as Carshalton Athletic has it’s own ladies team, which has won several trophies since its inception in 2008, plus several girls teams across all age ranges.
“As a club we are committed to ladies football and there’s no better way of celebrating that than by hosting two of the world’s best Ladies teams,” said Carshalton Athletic chairman Paul Dipre.
“Having Chelsea choose Colston Avenue is both a privilege and recognition of the quality of our stadium facilities.”
Admission to Chelsea Ladies vs FC Rosengård is £3 for adults and £1 for children (under 18s), kick-off 11am.
