Paul Doswell labelled his side as magnificent after they forced an FA Trophy replay with Boreham Wood after finishing the game with nine men.
Left back Ben Jefford was first to see red on 29 minutes after picking up two yellow cards against tricky winger Bruno Andrade.
The visitors almost capitalised on their numerical advantage before half time but Ross Worner made a superb one-handed save to deny Kenny Davis from Anthony Jeffrey’s cross.
Craig Eastmond then saw red on 72 minutes following a rash tackle on Danny Woodards but, despite relentless pressure in the closing minutes, Sutton hung on to ensure they will be in Monday’s quarter-final draw.
Doswell said: “To go down to ten is hard enough, but to go down to nine with 20 minutes remaining with injury time shows what a set of players they are to dig in.
“It would have been quite easy to throw the towel in with what else is going on at the moment.
“Second half every single player was magnificent and words can’t describe how good that result was.
“The one thing I cannot not talk about is one of the greatest saves that I’ve ever seen.
“It looked like it was already in and I turned away and said to Ian Baird we’re 1-0 down.
“I then saw this hand appear from nowhere and it will get forgotten because of everything else, but not by me.”
Doswell wrote in his programme notes that he previously said he doesn’t think you can have runs in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy, as well as doing well in the league.
With Sutton still competing in all three competitions, Doswell wants to speak with his chairman about bringing in reinforcements with another game now on the cards.
Doswell added: “We’ve got an extra game now but I’m not unhappy with that.
“It makes Nicky Bailey and Roarie Deacon available and I’m going to talk to Bruce [Elliott] about bringing one or two more in.
“It’s unrealistic to fight on three fronts and we’ve done that all the way until February.
“We do need some more help, especially until the end of the season, and I’m going to look and bring another player or two in.”
