Carshalton Athletic player/manager Peter Adeniyi has praised his squad after the club recently recorded one of its highest ever competitive wins.
The Robins showed a steely resolve to win 2-1 at Lewes last weekend before they smashed 10 goals without reply against beleaguered Godalming Town on Monday night.
Those two results have pushed Carshalton into second in the Ryman Division One South and, ahead of a visit to Whyteleafe this Saturday, Adeniyi said he is proud of his side for winning games under various circumstances.
“We’re a young squad but we’ve shown different sides to our game over the past week,” he said.
“We dominated against Lewes but perhaps let ourselves down by allowing them back into the game.
“We fought back into a winning position however and, of course, there weren’t too many faults in the match against Godalming.
“This squad’s desire to learn and keep improving is phenomenal and will only stand us in good stead.”
The Robins got off to a flyer on against Godalming on Monday as Mickel Miller, a penalty by Tommy Bradford and Adeniyi himself put them three-up within eight minutes.
Town couldn’t live with Carshalton’s free-flowing football but they had to wait until the 35th minute for the fourth – a Bradford cross turned past his own keeper by Chris Wales.
Then Ricky Korboa got in on the act by scoring twice ahead of Miller’s second just before half time, before grabbing two more and assisting Kingsley Aikhionbare during the second half.
“I’ve been in the game a good while and that rates in the top three performances I’ve ever been involved in,” said Adeniyi.
“But we must stay humble because, regardless of the score, you still only pick up three points for one win.
“We’ll enjoy it but we need to keep our feet on the ground and work hard in the lead up to the Whyteleafe game.”
And Carshalton’s head honcho added how a recent dressing room chat is indicative of the buoyant team-spirit presently found at Colston Avenue.
“We can’t keep relying on our young forwards so myself and (midfielder) Sekou Kaba spoke about the need to start chipping in with goals,” Adeniyi revealed.
“I’m guessing, now I’ve beat him to scoring first, he’ll want to make it ‘first to five’.
“But that kind of thing is all part of the strong bond I’ve wanted to foster since becoming manager.
“It flows right through the club, from the boardroom down to the youth teams, and makes it a great place to be.”
