A woman is in a life-threatening condition and three others have been stabbed in an unprovoked attack on women by a man in a car park in Richmond yesterday.
The man in his 60s, who attacked the women in the Sainsbury’s car park in Hampton, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Police were called at 10:35 yesterday morning to The Avenue, deploying a taser during the arrest, but it was not discharged.
Three of the women were found injured in the store’s car park, while the fourth woman, who suffered the most serious injuries, badly stabbed in the back, was found at a property nearby.
According to London Ambulance Service (LAS), the women were treated at the scene for stab wounds to the chest, legs and back.
The victim with critical injuries was taken to a major trauma centre by air ambulance, while the three other women were taken by road ‘as a priority’ to a south London hospital.
Witnesses described the attacker as being completely out of it, and targeting women in a completely unprovoked attack.
One described how the woman badly stabbed in the back made it to the police station and raised the alarm.
Sally Caddle, manager of the YMCA youth centre which is located near to the scene of the incident, said that she ran out into the car park to see what was happening and heard a young lady saying she had been stabbed.
She went to help, stemming the bleeding that was coming from her back and also helped a second of the injured women.
One of the Sainsbury’s staff came out of the store to assist, and shortly afterwards the emergency services arrived.
A witness described seeing two women in the back of their car, suffering stab wounds to their sides and back and said they were screaming and pointing ‘he’s over there he’s over there’.
After stabbing the women, the man was simply walking down the road, waving the knife around.
