Surbiton head coach Todd Williams knows Saturday’s clash with Wimbledon at King’s College will be a tough test as his squad try to get back on track.
An injury-hit Surbiton go into the game on the back of two defeats but they still sit second in the Premier Division, four points behind undefeated league leaders Holcombe and seven ahead of fourth-placed Wimbledon.
Wimbledon’s 4-3 win over Cannock last weekend ended their own bad run of three straight defeats but Williams is expecting Ben Marsden’s men to offer stern opposition.
“We’ll be expecting a tough test,” he said.
“They’ve had a number of international absences to contend with but Ben is a great coach and a shrewd character but we’ll be making sure we give them a hard game
“We’ve been hit with a series of injuries and absences but we’ve used the opportunity to look at some of our younger players who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance.
“Zach Wallace and Harry Gough in particular are ones that England selectors may be looking at for the future.
“I look at it as a positive, it allows us to play them in pressure games and I’m confident in our young players.”
Points could mean more for Surbiton on Saturday, with their run-in consisting of matches against Holcombe and third-placed Reading, while Wimbledon play teams all in the bottom half in their final four games.
