Battersea Affordable Art Fair to celebrate 15th birthday

Battersea Affordable Art Fair is returning for its fifteenth year this month.

Around 22,000 people are expected to flock to the event in search of wallet-friendly art and can enjoy interactive workshops, a bar and an in-house wrapping station.

With all pieces priced between £50 and £5,000 the fair has become a phenomenon which has spawned offshoots around the UK and in Amsterdam, Brussels, New York, Milan, Singapore, Hamburg, Seoul, Stockholm and Hong Kong.

New additions to the fair, which doubles as the 50th UK edition, include an exhibition of recent graduates’ work.

The brainchild of former army officer, Will Ramsey, the fair aims to democratise the art world and make it accessible to everyone.

Mr Ramsey launched the first fair in 1999 after the success of his Art Warehouse, now based in Richmond.

The continuing popularity of the fair, which sells £4.3 million worth of art each year, has been a prelude to the area’s redevelopment.

Investors and councillors are touting the regeneration around Battersea Power Station as a boost to the area’s cultural quarter.

The Affordable Art Fair takes place from October 22-25. Tickets cost £15.
