A New Addington drugs den which people used as ‘a place to smoke and chill’ has been boarded up and sealed off by Croydon Council.
Croydon Magistrates’ Court granted a three-month closure order on the two-bed ground floor flat at 52 Frimley Close on September 30.
This means nobody can enter the flat during that time.
The property was a well-known source of noise and anti-social behaviour, and was being used as a ‘safe house’ for gang members to gather and store illegal drugs.
Cannabis, cocaine and other drug-related paraphernalia were discovered and the three men there were arrested.
At the time of the raid, one of the men told a council officer that the flat was being used as ‘a place to smoke and chill’.
The council will now seek to repossess the property and if necessary, apply for a second closure order once the current one expires.
Councillor Mark Watson, cabinet member for safety and justice, said: “Residents should not have to tolerate anti-social behaviour and the trouble caused by the individuals who used this property for drug taking.
“We’re grateful to the neighbours who brought these problems to our attention, and I’m glad they will now be able to enjoy some respite.
“We will always take action in circumstances such as these, even if that means boarding up a property.”
