Commuters must brace themselves for further travel chaos from Wednesday night as the capital’s tube network is set to grind to a halt due to a strike.
No services will run for 24 hours from 6.30pm on Wednesday August 5, with a normal service expected to resume on Friday.
Unions including ASLEF, The Rail, Maritime and Transport Salaried Staffs Association are planning to strike, the second in a month, due to a dispute over conditions relating to the introduction of the Night Tube on September 12.
An ASLEF spokesman said that the trouble caused would be ‘regrettable’ but that more time was needed for a suitable settlement.
He said: “We genuinely regret the disruption this will cause.
“But the blame for this must rest with the pig-headed determination of the Mayor to insist on a September launch instead of allowing more time for a negotiated settlement to be reached.”
DLR, London Overground, tram and TfL Rail services will be running as normal. All of these services are expected to be much busier than usual.
