Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish, along with 150 of the world’s top cyclists, will be racing through the streets of Kingston next month as part of the Prudential RideLondon Festival.
They will be joined by 25,000 amateur cyclists and 30 elite handcyclists on August 2 on a route that largely follows the London 2012 Olympic cycling route.
Spectators will also get the chance to indulge in cycle-themed entertainment and enjoy special restaurant offers.
Lead Member for Arts, Leisure and Heritage at Kingston Council, Councillor David Glasspool, said: “Kingston is the only point along the entire Prudential RideLondon route where you can see the cyclists on both their outbound and inbound journeys, making it the best place to be on the day.
“I appreciate that events like RideLondon cause disruption for residents and business owners, with many roads in the borough and surrounding areas closed between the early hours of the morning and early evening.
“But I firmly believe this is outweighed by the benefits events like this bring to the town. I would encourage residents to plan ahead and to either line the route near their homes, or come into Kingston town centre and make a day of it.”
