A terrorist attacked stunned London ten years ago, today Mayoral candidates Zac Goldsmith and Sadiq Khan have thrown their weight behind the Walk Together initiative to remember the victims of the 7/7 bombings.
In the spirit of solidarity inspired by the city’s resistance against the terrorist attack, a collation of people from all faiths and backgrounds are leading the call for Londoners to walk the last leg of their everyday journeys.
Ten years ago on July 7, 2005 at 8:50am, terrorists detonated four bombs at Kings Cross, Aldgate, Edgeware Road and Tavistock Square, killing 52 people and injuring more than 770.
Sadiq Khan, MP for Tooting, said in a video released today in memory of victims of the tragedy: “London will never forget them, or the pain and suffering their families still suffer today.”
We should never forget the strength that Londoners showed after 7/7. A strength we should be proud of. https://t.co/QDboXVwTnv

British Future, a thinktank that focuses on integration, said: “The victims were all of us: young and old, black and white, different faiths and none.
“The tenth anniversary is a day to remember those whose lives were lost or changed forever. It’s also an important moment for London and for Britain – a chance to stand up for the country we all want to share.
“After the appalling killings in Tunisia last week, it’s more important than ever that we stand as one.”
Mayor of London Boris Johnson has also voiced his support for #WalkTogether, together with other mayoral candidates across the political spectrum, including Tessa Jowell, Syed Kamall, David Lammy and Caroline Pidgeon.
The #WalkTogether is an act of remembrance and unity, a peaceful re-enactment of the day ten years ago when public transport shut down and thousands of people walked home, together.
“After the appalling killings in Tunisia last week, it’s more important than ever that we stand as one.”
The initiative is supported by faith groups across London, from New Horizons in British Islam, The Big Iftar, Armed Forces Muslim Forum to City Sikhs and JW3 Jewish Community Centre London.
You can show your support by sharing a photograph of your journey, made anywhere in the country, under the #WalkTogether hashtag.

British Future said: “The decade that has followed [the attack] has been an anxious one for Britain. But none of us wants fear and hate to win.
“The power of #WalkTogether will come from people all over Britain taking part. You can walk at any time of day, wherever you are, with friends and colleagues or on your own.”
