Wimbledon’s security measures were tested last night after a fire alarm forced the grounds to be evacuated shortly after the close of play.
Security staff initially conducted a swift evacuation of Centre Court but soon widened this to the entire site, though media were allowed to stay in the grounds within the confines of the press centre.
Fire engines attended the scene but there was no obvious fire.
“The cause of the evacuation was not immediately clear, there were suggestions it may have been caused by an electrical fault,” said an All England Club spokesman.
