LEICESTER CITY 1 – 3 CHELSEA
Jose Mourinho hailed his Chelsea side as ‘phenomenal’ after they came from behind to beat Leicester and close in on the Premier League title.
The upset looked possible when Marc Albrighton scored just before half time but Chelsea responded swiftly after the break through by Didier Drogba.
John Terry put the visitors ahead before Ramires capped off a lovely Chelsea move with a sweet strike to bring the league leaders within one game of securing the league title.
For Mourinho the win was the perfect end to a month in which he feels his side silences some critics with their performances.
“April was the month people were waiting for Chelsea to sleep, to lose a game,” he said.
“It was a month with problems and it was exactly the month where we were phenomenal, we played five matches in April; we won everything and drew with Arsenal.
“I am so happy. I just need three points to celebrate.”
Chelsea’s exciting performance prompted their fans to pick up an ironic version of the ‘Boring boring Chelsea’ chant Arsenal fans sent their way on Sunday.
After falling behind in the first half, Mourinho was delighted with his team’s second-half efforts.
“It was a difficult half against a very good team, who were very well organised defensively,” he said,
“In the second half the early goal was important. After that we were completely in control.
“We played so well, so fluidly, that the goal had to arrive sooner or later. The boys did fantastically.”
Leicester boss Nigel Pearson felt the scoreline did not reflect his side’s performance and is disappointed to see his side remain just one point off the drop zone.
“The players didn’t deserve to be on the end of a 3-1 defeat. It was a tough game, we took the lead and showed a decent account of ourselves,” he said.
“Having taken the lead we showed positive intent but in the second half with them equalising so early, it gives a different complexion and the way the game developed suited their game-plan.”
