Raunchy literature fans come together to celebrate Erotic World Book Day and raise sexual health charity funds

Pull up a chair, grab a brew and pick up your favourite selection of titillating tales to celebrate Erotic World Book Day tonight.

On the same day as World Book Day, where children traditionally don costumes based on their favourite book character, an erotica site founder plans to celebrate quality erotic literature while raising cash for sexual health and wellbeing charity Brook.

Cliterati’s Emily Dubberley explained that she wants to celebrate the genre while raising sex education awareness.

She tweeted: “Support sexual health/wellbeing org Brook & celebrate diverse erotica. Tonight’s the night…”

Fans can join the party on the Erotic World Book Day Facebook page, and are also being encouraged to change their Twitter avatar to boost fundraising efforts.

London sex writer Girl On The Net documents her sexploits on a self-titled blog and has also penned a book revealing her ‘not-so-shameful sex secrets’.

She told SW Londoner: “I love the idea of Erotic World Book Day – as a sex blogger I naturally have a vested interest in more people embracing written-word porn and all the amazing avenues it can take you down.

“I think erotica is incredibly misunderstood – most people think it’s limited to soft Mills & Boon or 50 Shades, but actually erotic books cover a huge spectrum of scenarios and sexualities.

“Gay, straight, fantasy, sci-fi – even real-life memoirs like my own – if you can get horny to it, it counts.”

Aside from promoting the genre, she explained that combining the event with a charity fundraiser was a great idea.

She added: “Raising money for Brook is a fantastic idea – erotic books opened my eyes to a whole host of new sexual things, so donating to a sexual health charity (which gives advice and facts to go alongside the excitement of fiction) is pretty perfect.

“In all I think EWBD is a brilliant opportunity to show people the wealth of erotic variety that’s out there, while raising money for a great cause.

Deputy CEO of Brook Jules Hillier said she was thrilled that the event will raise vital funds to help young people.

She said: “Brook is dedicated to helping young people enjoy their sexuality without harm, by providing health and education services that reach over 275,000 young people every year, and through our young people led Sex:Positive campaign.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the organisers of Erotic World Book Day for choosing us as their charity beneficiary – it means a lot to us and to all the young people we help on a daily basis.”

To celebrate Erotic World Book Day Girl On The Net is offering a discount on her e-book. You can find it here.
