Ex-Chelsea defender Gary Chivers believes Tottenham Hotspur go in to Sunday’s League Cup final with the edge over the Blues.
Chivers, who made 133 appearances for the club between 1978 and 1983, claims that Chelsea’s 5-3 loss at White Hart Lane in January gives Spurs the psychological advantage.
“Obviously, Chelsea got beaten at White Hart Lane earlier on in the season, so maybe they’ve got the upper hand on the game,” he said.
“Tottenham played well in that encounter and if they play like that again Chelsea will need to be at their absolute best to win.”
Chivers also believes Chelsea’s defence will have to be on top form to stop Spurs striker Harry Kane.
The 21-year-old has scored 24 goals in all competitions this season and scored twice in January’s victory.
“Whatever Harry Kane touches turns to goals. He’s a goal machine,” Chivers explained.
“The Chelsea defence will have to be very watchful when they play against him because Kane has the ability to score from nothing.
“But, whatever the result, its going to be a fantastic game.”
