Kit Symons ‘proud’ of Fulham players despite Blackburn Rovers defeat

BLACKBURN ROVERS 2 FULHAM 1

Kit Symons feels his Fulham side deserved more from their Championship defeat to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, but conceded it ‘wasn’t their day’.

Fulham were unable to build on the momentum from Ross McCormack’s second half goal having gone two down thanks to goals from Ben Marshall and Jordan Rhodes.

Symons’ side have now slipped to 15th and he argued the result does not reflect the performance from his players.

“I’m very, very disappointed because we deserved something out of that game,” he said.

“I’m proud of my players; the performance was good and I thought they played well so I’ve got no complaints with them – it just wasn’t to be our day.”

Despite being happy with Fulham’s performance Symons was disappointed to see them concede two goals consecutively.

He said: “Our build-up play was good, but they were two very poor goals to concede from our point of view; you let them in and you’ve got a mountain to climb.

“But the overall play was solid.”

Symons is also pleased with how far his side have come recently and insists today’s loss will not discourage Fulham ahead of their FA Cup tie with Sunderland on Tuesday.

“We’ve come a long way in a relatively short space of time and this team is developing all the time,” he said.

“I’ve got high hopes for this group of players, I believe in them massively and they’re starting to believe in themselves.

“Today was a tough one to take but it won’t dampen what we do or my belief in the way we work.”

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer also praised Fulham and believes Symons has honed a side worthy of the top flight.

“Kit Symons has done a tremendous job there,” he said.

“You see the players they’ve got, especially the forward line, which is Premier League quality, and I thought we did ever so well against it today.”
