Special awards ceremony for Croydon’s ‘fantastic’ Volunteer Police Cadets

Croydon Police Cadets who wrapped and delivered 600 Christmas presents for children in care were honoured at a special awards ceremony last week.

The ceremony recognised the great effort and work of Croydon’s Volunteer Police Cadets and was held at Addington High School on January 22.

Awards such as ‘Cadet of the Year’, service to the community, and Duke of Edinburgh were amongst the accolades handed out.

PC Alex Adams, who leads Croydon cadets, said: “This event was about recognising some of the fantastic work that our young police cadets have done in Croydon over the past year.

“Their parents see them going to the weekly meetings, but don’t really know the full extent of what they get involved in.”

The ceremony informed parents about activities the cadets have been involved in such as assisting police operations, community engagement and supporting Remembrance Sunday.

The event also spoke about the cadets’ ‘Give a Gift’ campaign where they recently helped wrap and deliver 600 Christmas presents for children in care across the borough.

PC Adams said: “We’ve got a fantastic group of cadets here in Croydon, who do some amazing work.

“I’m extremely proud to lead them and I’m looking forward to what 2015 has in store for them.”

Guests included Croydon Borough Commander Andy Tarrant, Croydon Councillor Steve O’Connell, and Croydon Cadet Leader PC Alex Adams and his team of instructors.
