An ambitious cycling project that will transform Kingston upon Thames into a ‘mini Holland’ will have access to more than £30million of Transport for London funding.
In March last year the borough was named by Boris Johnson as just one of three areas awarded the status to transform cycling facilities and improve road safety.
At the heart of Kingston’s bid is an ambitious plan to deliver a network of six high-quality cycle routes along with four ambitious projects.
Councillor Richard Hudson, Lead Member for Infrastructure, Projects and Contracts said: “This is a very exciting moment for the borough – the mini-Holland programme will make better use of the existing road network.
“Moving around the borough will be easier and safer for all road users thanks to better infrastructure and by improving relations and interactions between cyclists, drivers and pedestrians.”
The mini-Holland programme will improve quality of life for residents of the borough by establishing better and safer connections between key community locations.
Public consultation on the first of routes along Portsmouth Road begins today and the council are seeking views from residents, businesses and users on the proposed improvements for this vital route.

There will also be drop in sessions where council officers will be on hand to share detailed scheme maps and answer questions

The consultation ends on February 18.
