Welsh diva Dame Shirley Bassey is urging Londoners to bag up unwanted Christmas presents and donate them to a children’s charity.
The singing sensation, and long-term supporter of charity Barnardo’s, is appealing to all those who received things that weren’t on their Christmas list not to let them languish in the attic and instead be gifted to their nearest store.
The items sold will raise vital funds for the charity’s work with some of the most disadvantaged children and families in the UK.
Dame Shirley said: “Now that the festivities are over I urge people in London to look at any presents they received this Christmas which they know they won’t use.
“There are many vulnerable young people across the UK who are desperately in need of Barnardo’s valuable support, and by donating to their stores you can be a part of making that happen.”
The most popular items the charity receives after Christmas are items of clothing, toiletry gift sets, DVDs, CDs and other household items.
Barnardo’s Chief Executive Javed Khan said: “Barnardo’s stores are dependent upon the public’s kind donations and our profits go directly into our work with some of the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people.
“If you receive a gift at Christmas that you know you won’t use then please think of Barnardo’s and how your item can be enjoyed by someone else while benefiting the children who need it most.”
