Fulham look to shuffle pack after defeat at leaders Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth 2-0 Fulham

Fulham boss Kit Symons will look to strengthen his squad after defeat at league-leaders Bournemouth saw them slip to 15th in the SkyBet Championship table.

Despite a second-half penalty save from Marcus Bettinelli, goals from Brett Pitman and Harry Arter at either end of the match were enough to give the Cherries all three points at The Goldsands.

It was just the Cottagers’ second away defeat in six outings and Symons reiterated he is pleased with Fulham’s progress since their poor early-season form.

He said: “It was disappointing but, looking at the bigger picture, I’m relatively pleased with the way things are going.

“We’ve got a good group of players, who are very honest and very hard-working, with no lack of talent or ability so I’m relatively happy.

“There’s always room for improvement and work to be done – that’s what we intend to do.”

Hinting at possible additions to the squad in the January transfer window, the manager said: “It’s whether there is the right player available and for the right place.

“I think there will be a couple of new, fresh faces coming in certainly. We’re constantly looking and we aim to do so.”

Pitman broke the deadlock in the ninth minute with a deft header from a Matt Ritchie corner.

Seko Fofana and Scott Parker came close to grabbing a goal for the visitors before Arter made the points safe in stoppage time.

“The boys gave everything, especially second half, we really had a go at them and caused a few problems,” Symons added.

“There were a lot of good things, we stayed in the game and I thought we could get some joy second half if we were more positive – unfortunately it was not meant to be.”
