Rodallega on target again as Fulham return to winning ways

Leeds 0 Fulham 1

Kit Symons praised his side as Fulham bounced back to winning ways at Elland Road courtesy Hugo Rodallega’s ninth goal of the season in the 60th minute.

After losing 5-0 at Craven Cottage against Watford a win was imperative, and leaves The Whites in 14th place, ten points of the play-off spots.

“It was very important, especially on the back of getting battered 5-0 at home by Watford the week before, so it was important we tightened up and we showed real character, which is exactly what the boys did,” said Symons.

“As I said, they’ve got an absolutely fantastic home record under Redders so we knew it was going to be really difficult but that’s what you’ve got to do.

“We regrouped, worked very well during the week, had a good build up to this game and I thought it was a real solid performance and we deserved to win it in the end. “

Leeds hit the crossbar in the first-half, while Ross McCormack, returning to Elland Road for the first time as a Fulham player, had The Whites clearest opening.

The £11million signing was named as Fulham’s captain to add interest to an already acrimonious return.

But Rodallega settled the game in the second half, when he finished Lasse Vigen Christensen’s pull-back.

“Confidence is a huge thing in football, especially with strikers more than anyone,” added Symons.

“Lasse Christensen did exceptionally well – he’s been excellent for us since I’ve taken over, and Hugo can’t stop scoring, and long may that last. He took his goal very well.

“Hugo is really enjoying his football, he’s a lovely lad, he wears his heart on his sleeve and he needs to be happy and loved.

“He’s all that at Fulham and we are loving him scoring the goals for us.”

Fulham head back to Craven Cottage next Saturday, where they will be facing Sheffield Wednesday, attempting to edge closer to the leading pack in the Championship.
