Dallas actress Linda Gray was billed as the star turn in this year’s Wimbledon line-up but undoubtedly funnyman Tim Vine swiped that crown with his sharp wit, comic timing and a crackin’ singing voice.
Playing the role of loved-up Buttons Vine had panto goers of all ages chuckling in the aisles leaving little doubt as to why he’s the Guinness World Record holder for the most jokes told in an hour.
This classic panto tale has been given a 21st century makeover complete with One Direction songs, X Factor references (the ugly sisters are called Cheryl and Mel) and a sprinkling of Disney magic with Frozen hit Let It Go.
There were more Dallas references peppered throughout the show than you could shake a Stetson at which went down a treat with die-hard fans.
Younger audience members may have been perplexed as to why the fairy godmother regularly took a glug from her diamante hipflask however there was plenty of colour, music, humour and even two Shetland ponies drawing Cinders’ carriage to keep little ones entertained.
But the show wasn’t just a one-trick (Shetland) pony with an impressive cast including Amy Lennox and Liam Doyle who look like a real-life Disney couple with vocals to match.
Real-life father and son duo Matthew Kelly and Matthew Rixon were deliciously monstrous in their roles as the Ugly Sisters with outrageous costumes, TOWIE quips and Les Dawson-esque facial expressions
Pirouetting like his life depended on it Wayne Sleep danced circles around the cast in the role of Prince Charming’s cheeky valet Dandini.
This production is an early Christmas gift wrapped up in a big glitzy bow which is sure to delight panto goers of all ages.
