Nine memorial statues in Fulham cemeteries have been beheaded by callous thugs.
Police patrols have been stepped up following the bizarre acts of vandalism which have seen several statues decapitated in Bishops Park, Margravine Cemetery, All Saints Church and Fulham Cemetery.
A Friends of Margravine Cemetery spokeswoman said the group was baffled as to why anyone would commit such acts.
She said: “We’re sad that anyone would want to damage our beautiful angels which have stood for well over a century in this much-loved cemetery.”
The spree began in the Pryors Bank area of Bishops Park on October 27 when two statues’ heads were knocked off and a further three were damaged.
On November 9, Remembrance Sunday, another four statues were also damaged.
All Saints parishioners in Fulham are in disbelief after their Madonna statue was beheaded two years after it was replaced due to vandalism.
Parish manager Tina Ellis said: “We were talking about getting CCTV just the day before it happened.
“Nobody can believe somebody could just take the head off the Madonna statue.”
After studying CCTV footage from all scenes the police are looking for a male acting alone.
