Streatham Redskins’ goaltender Will Sanderson says his side must overcome last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Chelmsford Chieftains and focus on their next game against Wightlink Raiders.
Redskins were beaten 7-4 by last season’s champions on Saturday which ended their impressive nine game unbeaten run.
This Sunday they travel to Ryde in the Isle of Wight to face the Raiders and Sanderson feels his side are still in the right frame of mind.
“We know we are a good side and we know we have the capability of beating teams like Wightlink,” said Sanderson.
“We just need to forget about last week and move forward and I feel confident we will do that.”
Redskins are currently joint league leaders with Chieftains while the Raiders are fourth and four points behind.
The two sides played out a thrilling 5-5 draw last month in London and Sanderson expects much of the same from their opponents in this meeting.
“They (Wightlink) are a very tough side with big, physical players and they are not going to take us lightly,” he said.
“They have a point to prove as well after they let a lead slip against us last time but we just have to be ready for it.”
However Sanderson does add that his side must minimise the number of penalties they are taking each game if they are to beat the bigger sides.
“We do take too many penalties and we’re having too many of our best players sitting in the penalty box for stupid decisions and it’s costing us,” he said.
“If we can stay with five players on the ice we can beat anyone so we must be able to do that especially when we are playing teams like Chelmsford and Wightlink.”
