Sam Twomey has issued a rallying cry to his Harlequins teammates ahead of their LV= Cup trip to Saracens this Sunday.
The 22-year-old lock has found his first team opportunities limited this season by the form of second rowers George Robson and Charlie Matthews in the Aviva Premiership.
But he is hoping that the weekend’s game will give him a chance to shine.
“I cannot wait for the LV= Cup to get started,” said Twomey.
“It has been tough sitting on the bench but the boys have been putting in some really good performances so you have to sit and watch and hope to get some minutes.
“But the LV is the chance guys like me have been waiting for, to put our stamp and lay down a marker, to show the coaches what we can do.”
Despite a patchy start to the team’s league season, Quins have looked dangerous in cup rugby, claiming victories over Castres and Wasps in the European Rugby Champions Cup.
And Twomey, who was an important part of the team’s 2013 LV= Cup triumph, is determined to claim that trophy again this season.
“It’s also a great chance for some silverware,” he said.
“Playing in the semi-final and final in 2013 was one of the best experiences of my life.
“We really buy into it as a club, we have a great side for the weekend and we want to put down a marker.”
